How a Round Works

Every round of baccarat moves toward one of three possible outcomes — Player, Banker, or Tie.

Baccarat is played between two hands — Player and Banker. Players can bet on either hand or on a Tie. The round begins with two cards dealt to each hand.

Card values work a little differently: cards 2 through 9 count at face value, an Ace counts as 1, and 10, Jack, Queen, and King are worth 0. If the total of two cards exceeds 9, the left digit is dropped. For example, 7 + 8 = 15, but the hand value is 5.

After the initial two cards, a third card may be drawn according to fixed rules. If the Player hand is 0–5, it receives a third card; if it is 6 or 7, it does not; if it is 8 or 9, that is a Natural and the round ends. The Banker's decision to draw a third card depends on the Player's third card — the dealer handles this automatically and players do not need to calculate anything.

The hand closest to or equal to 9 wins. If both hands are equal, it is a Tie.

Bet Types and Payouts

There are three main bets in baccarat — each with its own return structure.

Player Bet

If the Player hand wins, you receive an amount equal to your bet — a 1:1 ratio. So a ৳1,000 bet returns ৳1,000 in winnings. No commission is charged. This is the most straightforward bet.

1:1 Payout

Banker Bet

The Banker bet also pays 1:1, but a 5% commission is usually deducted from winnings. The commission reduces the actual return slightly, yet over the long run this bet has a marginally higher chance of winning.

5% Commission Applies

Tie Bet

A Tie occurs when both hands have the same value. This bet typically pays 8:1. Despite the higher payout, the event is relatively unlikely, so most experienced players avoid it.

8:1 Payout

Player Pair / Banker Pair

This is a side bet. If the first two cards form a pair — such as two 7s or two Kings — it typically pays 11:1. It can be placed alongside the main bet.

11:1 Payout

Perfect Pair / Either Pair

A Perfect Pair means a pair of the same rank and same suit — the return is even higher. An Either Pair means a pair on either hand qualifies. These are side bets, separate from the main game.

High Return

House Edge — The Real Numbers

Baccarat is often known as a low house edge game. The Banker bet typically carries the lowest house edge — close to one percent — though the actual effect must be calculated after the commission is deducted. The Player bet has a slightly higher house edge, but many players prefer it because there is no commission.

The Tie bet carries a much higher house edge — generally around 14%. This is why experienced players regularly avoid the Tie bet. Pair side bets also carry a comparatively higher house edge.

Keep in mind — house edge is a long-run average, not a per-round figure. Any result can occur in any session. Following responsible gaming guidelines and sticking to a budget makes this game much easier to enjoy.

Bet Type Approximate House Edge Payout Ratio
Banker Approx. 1.06% (with commission) 1:1 (5% commission deducted)
Player Approx. 1.24% 1:1
Tie Approx. 14.36% 8:1
Player Pair Approx. 10.36% 11:1
Banker Pair Approx. 10.36% 11:1

* The house edge figures above are approximate values for a standard eight-deck game; slight differences may occur between tables.

Five Tips on Strategy for New Players

There is no guaranteed formula for winning at baccarat, but a few habits can genuinely help reduce losses.

  • 01 Favour the Banker bet. In terms of house edge, the Banker bet is the most favourable option. Even after the commission, it gives you a better position over a long session than Player or Tie.
  • 02 Stay away from the Tie bet. The return may look attractive, but the house edge on this bet is very high. It is better for new players to avoid it.
  • 03 Set a budget before each session. Decide in advance how much you will play with and at what loss limit you will stop. Take regular breaks even when winning.
  • 04 Use Martingale or other progressive betting systems with caution. Doubling your bet after each loss can lead to large losses very quickly in practice. New players should start with flat betting (the same amount each round).
  • 05 Use side bets in moderation. Side bets like the Pair bet add variety to the game, but they carry a higher house edge. They can be tried occasionally alongside the main bet, not as a regular habit.

Something to Keep in Mind

Baccarat is not a skill game — outcomes depend on the cards. Strategy is really about reducing losses, not guaranteeing wins. Practise in demo mode at wln Casino before playing with real money.

Live Dealer vs Digital Baccarat

Both versions follow the same rules — the difference is in the feel and pace.

Live Dealer Baccarat

In the live version, a real dealer deals cards in front of a camera — streamed live from studios like Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live, Ezugi, SA Gaming, or AE Sexy. There is a chat option too, so it feels much like a real casino.

The pace is comparatively slower because the dealer has to shuffle and deal cards each round. Even so, many players prefer this setting, especially those who want the feel of a casino from home.

  • Real cards, real dealer
  • Multiple tables with different limits
  • Squeeze, Speed, and VIP tables available
  • Full experience on mobile as well

Digital / RNG Baccarat

In the digital version there is no dealer — a Random Number Generator (RNG) determines the card results. The advantage of this version is speed. Each round finishes in just a few seconds, so you can play more rounds in less time.

Many players practise on the digital version first, then move to live tables. Live tables generally have a slightly higher minimum bet. The digital version usually allows play at lower limits as well.

What Limits to Expect at the Tables

At wln, there are separate tables for every budget — from small to large.

Mini Baccarat

Mini tables have the lowest limits, suited for new players or those with a limited budget. You can learn the full game with small bets and lower risk. The digital version may offer even lower limits.

Standard Table

Most live dealer tables have a minimum bet in the mid range. These tables have multiple seats and a moderate pace. Most regular players stick to these tables.

VIP and High-Limit Tables

VIP tables are designed for players with larger budgets and carry high limits. These tables usually feature Squeeze or a dedicated setting — with a more premium dealer and atmosphere. Members of the wln VIP programme receive special benefits.

The specific limits for each table are visible as soon as you enter the game lobby. Limits may change from time to time.

Frequently Asked Questions — Baccarat

No, baccarat is essentially a game of chance. There is no need for card counting or any special skill. Understanding the rules is enough — which hand you bet on is your decision, and the cards take care of the rest.

Generally yes — at most baccarat tables, a 5% commission is deducted when the Banker bet wins. However, some tables offer a "No Commission Baccarat" version where there is no commission, though the payout rules may differ slightly. Check the table type in the lobby before you play.

Usually 6 or 8 decks of cards are used. The number of decks has a slight effect on the house edge, but the difference is small enough that it does not matter much for the average player. Live tables typically use 8 decks and shuffle at set intervals.

Yes, wln's live and digital baccarat work well on mobile. The live table video stream, chip selection, and betting buttons are all easy to use on smaller screens. Keep a stable internet connection for the best experience.

Squeeze baccarat is a special variant where the dealer slowly reveals the corners of the cards — it builds tension and is interesting to watch. Dragon Bonus is a side bet that pays extra when you win by a large margin. These versions are usually found at VIP or premium tables.
